Information Literacy Center

The CSI Library spearheaded the CSI information literacy initiative. Fostering information
literacy and lifelong learning is an important part of the Library’s mission.
Information literacy means many things to many people, but most agree that it is an essential
skill in today’s knowledge-based society:
- Association of College and Research Libraries calls information literacy a "survival skill" - "Information Literacy is the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information."
- Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS): "the ability to locate, evaluate, and use information to become independent life-long learners."
The CSI Information Literacy Center was established in 2006 with the help from a generous donation
from the Keveran Foundation which enabled us to equip the Center with state-of-the-art technology
(funds were dispersed over a three-year period). The College and the CSI Foundation also contributed
to the remodeling and equipping of the Center. The Center is equipped with:
- Computers for instructor and students
- Multimedia projection unit
- DVD/VHS player
- Sound system
- Printer
- High speed Internet
- A variety of high-end software applications
The Center is used to teach courses and provide information literacy and technology training.
