Board of Trustees

The College of Southern Idaho is governed by a volunteer five-member board of trustees who are elected at large from within Twin Falls and Jerome Counties for staggered, four-year terms. Trustees derive their authority from and hold office in accordance to the state of Idaho Code.

Dr. H. Thad Scholes Dr. H. Thad Scholes
Term ends 2016

Re-elected to the board in 2012, Dr. Scholes was re-appointed by fellow trustees to the position of Board Chairman. He is a graduate of Twin Falls High School, the University of Idaho, and the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He received his dermatology training at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Scholes is the past president of the Idaho Dermatology Society, South Central Idaho Medical Society, Twin Falls Rotary Club, and the Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce. His first association with the College of Southern Idaho was as the School Physician and Team Physician starting in 1966. He still serves as one of several volunteer team physicians.

Mr. Karl Kleinkopf Karl Kleinkopf

Elected to the Board in 2010. Karl is a third generation Idahoan born and raised in the Magic Valley. His formal education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Economics from the University of Hawaii (1969) and a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Idaho (1981). His 42 year career in education began in the Jerome School District in 1969 and continued with a position with the University of Idaho in Agricultural Research (1977-78). He went to work for the College of Southern Idaho in 1978 as a Track and Cross Country Coach and went on to become a Physical Education Professor, Athletic Director and Department Chair until he retired in 2010.

"This college has been great to me and my family. I have gained much from CSI and now it’s time to give back to the institution that I really love." Education is a lifelong event and it’s great to be a part of the process.

Karl is an avid outdoorsman with a love of camping, wilderness travel, hunting and fishing as well as white water rafting. He and his wife Sally reside in Kimberly, Idaho.

Mr. Bob Keegan Bob Keegan
Term ends 2014

Elected to the Board in 2010. Bob grew up in Twin Falls. He graduated from CSI in 1970 and attended Regis College receiving a business degree in 1972. His father founded a successful fresh potato business in Twin Falls which Bob and his brothers ran for 29 years. Bob feels the College of Southern Idaho is one of the most valuable assets in southern Idaho. He has seen tremendous growth from his student days to the present and is honored to be involved in the future growth of the College.

Jan Mittleider Jan Mittleider
Trustee/CSI Foundation Representative
Term ends 2016

Before being elected to the board in 2012, Jan taught at CSI for 42 years until her retirement in 2011.  At CSI, she was a volleyball coach, community wellness advocate, and champion of active aging programs throughout Idaho. Her Over 60 and Getting Fit program for seniors has served as a model for countless community and college-based programs around the country.  She continues to work as a wellness consultant and community volunteer and is the regional representative for the Idaho Commission on the Arts.  “I love the mission of the community college and the opportunity to impact every life stage from the cradle to the grave.”  A native Idahoan, Jan enjoys writing, travel and photography.

Mr. Laird Stone Laird Stone
Term ends 2016

Elected to the board in 2012, Laird was born and raised in Gooding. He received a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of Idaho. He was a member of the Idaho State Board of Education from 2001-2008. His community involvement includes El Korah Shrine Ambassador, Twin Falls Parks and Recreation Commission, All Star and Babe Ruth Baseball, Shrine High School All Star Football, recipient of a Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award, Snake River Council Boy Scouts, and Twin Falls Kiwanis. Laird is a partner in the law firm Stephan, Kvanvig, Stone, and Trainor. He is a strong supporter of the community college system.
