Art to see and buy, art to do and get involved with, and artistic performances are all part of the second annual Spring Arts Experience at the College of Southern Idaho from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 6. Admission is free of charge.
The event features five outdoor venues on the lawn at the back of CSI’s Fine Arts building, each with attractions for all ages and artistic interest levels. The art fair itself will feature more than 30 local and regional artists, each of whom will be showing and selling their wares as well as helping visitors enjoy hands on experiences in their expertise. Displays include drawing, knitting, ceramics, cyanotypes, scrimshaw, and other media.
Free drop-in dance classes from CSI Dance program instructors will include aerial silks, ballroom, and modern dance with Cindy Jones and hip hop with Keesha Olander.
Free drop-in art classes in ceramics, drawing, linoleum cutting, printmaking, and watercolor will be conducted by the CSI Art Department faculty.
Live music on the outdoor stage will feature Mr. Don’s Children’s Show, the CSI Percussion Ensemble, Heather Platts, the CSI Faculty Jazz Combo, and The Barking Owls.
And the Children’s Corner will feature a mini arts experience for younger children in which they can clap, dance, and sing a long, face-painting, play dough creations, scavenger hunt, a nature-inspired art project, and children’s yoga.
All attractions run from noon to 5 p.m. Food concessions will be available so visitors can plan to have lunch on the CSI grounds as they enjoy the show. If necessary, the event will be moved indoors if the weather is bad.
