Charley Jenkins in Concert at CSI 4/6/2011

How did a small town eastern Utah boy who grew up roping, riding, and working hard end up as the opening act for today’s biggest country stars? Charley Jenkins says it’s because he was born country. He also got good advice and examples from some of those stars during the years he spent in Nashville.

Jenkins, who will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6th in the College of Southern Idaho Fine Arts Auditorium, had already recorded his first album, ‘Greatest Hours,’ before he moved to Nashville in 2001. His songwriting job on Music Row put him in touch with some of the industry’s biggest names. He moved back to eastern Utah in 2004 to help with the family farm as his father battled cancer. His second album, ‘Round Here,’ was a tribute to his dad. Other albums followed in 2007 and 2009. In the meantime, he had begun opening concerts for LeAnn Rimes, Lonestar, Montgomery Gentry, Kellie Pickler, Josh Turner, Taylor Swift, and others. In 2008, he was one of 12 finalists on NBC’s Nashville Star program.

Jenkins’ Twin Falls concert will be a fundraiser for the CSI Equine Club. Advance tickets for students and FFA members will be $5 each or $7 at the door. Advance tickets for the general public will be $8 or $10 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Vicker’s Western Wear in Twin falls, all Valley Co-Op locations, the CSI box office, or members of the Equine Club.
