Practicing Zen Meditation

To practice Zen means to become aware of one’s existence in the natural beauty and simplicity of the present moment, rather than dwelling on life’s complexities of the past and future. Studies find that regular practicing of Zen Meditation can reduce stress as well as cognitive decline associated with normal aging.  There are two sessions available, and you have the option of attending either or both. On Monday you will be introduced to the nature of Buddha and Zen Buddhist teaching, and the tradition of zazen (sitting) meditation, meant to bring about a strong sense of well-being, as your body and mind are one in harmony with all creation.  Tuesday night you will enjoy greater enlightenment with two zazen periods of 30 minutes, walking meditation, and added insight through a short lecture.  “The class gave me a better understanding of myself and life in general” - Jesse Curtis. You should wear loose and comfortable clothing.  A pillow or cushion should be brought to class for the traditional meditation posture, which can also be practiced while sitting in a chair.  Leslie James has studied and practiced at the San Francisco Zen Center and the affiliate center, Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, since 1971.
