The material is designed to provide the student with valuable and necessary practice in solving typical welding problems. Instruction and practice in the use of fractions, decimals, and measuring formulas as they apply to the welding industry.
WELD 132 2.00 Cr Hrs Oxyacetylene Cut, Welding & Plasma Instruction and practice in oxyacetylene welding of light-gauge metal, pipe, brazing, and hard facing. Students will learn the safe practice of cutting, brazing, and welding. This course also includes instruction and application with practice in manual and machine cutting of ferrous and nonferrous metals. The cutting skills developed will include techniques for air carbon arc, plasma arc, and oxyacetylene cutting processes and panagraph cutting. May be repeated with 4 credit hours accumulated.
WELD 134 2.00 Cr Hrs Basic Arc Welding Development of the basic skills that are needed to weld with mild steel electrodes in the four positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) using the most common joint designs found in industry. Instruction includes theory of arc welding, machine setting, welding polarities, and the metallurgy.
WELD 135 3.00 Cr Hrs Project Applications Instruction and practice in industrial fabrications. Students will fabricate various structures from scaled blueprints or shop drawings.
WELD 139 2.00 Cr Hrs Basic TIG Welding This course includes basic instruction and theory of the TIG process using mild steel and aluminum.
WELD 140 2.00 Cr Hrs Basic MIG Welding This course includes instruction and application in the use of metallic inert gas welding. The course will include dual shield, innershield, and the sub arc process.
WELD 148 3.00 Cr Hrs Welding Blueprint Reading & Layout This course includes blueprint reading, drawing and layout work as related to the welding field, with particular emphasis on welding terminology and symbols.
WELD 199 Welding Workshop This course is a discussion of current trends and welding techniques used in various businesses and industry. It is taught by industry leaders and moderated by welding faculty.
WELD 200 3.00 Cr Hrs Welding Upgrade Welding and cutting skills will be developed to enhance performance and security of employment.
WELD 200I Welding Independent Study This is a term-long activity by contract. Each credit hour is equivalent to 45 hours of work on an agreed learning project. Students should make arrangements with the instructor in their field of interest. A request for this project must be approved by the instructor, department chairman, and appropriate Instructional Dean. Prerequisite: Instructor permission.
WELD 201 1-3 Cr Hrs Pipe Certification Skills will be developed to weld and test pipe, using joint designs and positions, as applied to American Welding Society codes.
