Educational Philosophy:
I believe a successful instructor must create a safe environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and think critically regarding the course material. I like to think of myself as a coach who guides students to master their own learning by processing ideas in ways that are meaningful to them. I respect the diverse talents and learning styles of my students and encourage them to share their experiences with their peers. Students’ prior knowledge is an asset in the classroom that should be used to enrich the course content.
As a subject matter expert my enthusiasm for the course content shows the importance of the subject. I value helping students prepare to become healthcare professionals by sharing my work experiences in radiography to spark their interest in the profession. I help students form a strong foundation of course knowledge to use as they make critical decisions in the clinical setting. Linking theory to real-world practice through positioning labs help students apply their skills with confidence in a safe environment before they interact with real patients.
Excellent communication is essential to an effective course. By modeling effective communication within a course, students learn the importance of clear communication in a working environment.
As a lifelong learner, I want to inspire students to find their intrinsic motivation to continue their learning far beyond their college experience. I hope to excite my students so they want to learn more. I want to give them the skills to become self-directed learners so learning does not require a teacher, just the desire to achieve. I believe an important part of a college education is developing intellectual curiosity to learn in an ever changing world.
Teaching poses challenges and opportunities to master the advancing technology in my profession. As technology changes, I strive to understand the subject material to pass on to my students. My goal is to train exceptional Registered Technologist in Radiography who will be successful in our community and beyond.
