International students are required to be enrolled in a certain number of credit hours to maintain your Visa status. You must be a full time student (12-16 credits) to maintain your F-1 nonimmigrant status.
There are situations in which a student can register for less than the required number of credits hours.
If you need to drop below the required number of credit hours for medical reasons, the first step for you will be to meet with the international program office advisor before completing the Part-Time Request Form for Medical Reasons.
Only three online credits may be counted toward your full-time enrollment requirements. For example, if a student wants to take 6 credits online, he/she must still take 9 credits in a classroom. Therefore, s/he will take 15 credits, but only 12 will count toward the Immigration requirements.
