Exams:

Closed book exams will consist of true/false, multiple choice, and short answer questions.  Students who miss an exam must take a comprehensive final.  For each tutorial assignment completed in class the student will receive 2 or 3 points that will be added to the test score.  Exams 2, 3, & 4 have an open book component.  The open book exam requires the student to complete a project during the time allotted in class.

The exercises are found at the end of the chapters in the text and will be explained more fully in class.  Late exercises will be worth a maximum of only 5 extra credit points.  This represents a 50% grade reduction.

Extra Credit:

Any of the exercises not assigned can be completed for extra credit.  Each successfully completed exercise is worth 5 points.  Extra credit points can be used to increase the score on the assigned exercises.  However, extra credit points plus the assigned exercise grade cannot exceed 100%.

Challenge Test:

Students who feel they have adequate computer experience to avoid taking this course may take a challenge test.  Sign up for the challenge test by asking the instructor.  The challenge test must be completed by the end of the second week of the semester.

Students who score above a 70% on the challenge test will receive a grade of P (pass).  The pass grade will not be used in computing GPA but will give the student 3 credits towards graduation.
