The honors students for the 1998-99 school year are an interesting bunch! Below, you can find their photos and a little information about each of them.
The Honors Students, Fall 1998
Mike Andersen
Try to make every decision a choice for growth, not a response
to fear or anxiety. That has helped me getthrough some tough
times. Normally I read financial or stock market books, but the Honors
Program has exposed me to a more diverse culture of reading literature.
Without the program I would not have challenged myself to read books
not found in my business major.

Jennifer
Bartosovsky
I am a freshman at CSI majoring in Biology. I graduated from Buhl
High School, and commute everyday to CSI from my home in the thriving
metropolis of Buhl. I enjoy fishing, sailing, playing street hockey,
and traveling to Gustarus, Alaska during the summer. I have a passion
for the sea, and some day would like to live on a sailboat and follow
the migration of humpback whales. My mythological inspiration is Iris,
goddess of the rainbow.

Rick
Benge
Born in Phoenix, Arizona on June 12, 1978, I enjoy target shooting,
martial arts, collecting different blades (knives), red wines, and
collecting all types of music, except rap and r&b. My favorite gods
are Loki and Pan. I am an English major studying to be a teacher for
high school seniors. My favorite book is Bram Stokers Dracula
because of the wonderfully-thought-out romance it becomes in the later
stages of the book. My favorite comedian is George Carlin because
of how George plays around with the English language and my favorite
band is Pink Floyd because of their passive psychedelic sound.

Sadie
Crofts
I come from the ancient land of Firth, Idaho. In a previous life I
was very stinking, rich and I will undoubtedly surpass myself in this
life. I occupy my spare time by holding a chair on the student senate
and taking courses at this college. Since I have virtually no worries
(except deciding the means by which I will make my fortune), I spend
the days making beaded jewely and candles. Though I am very blessed,
I have managed to remain very humble.

Sarah
Davis
I am nineteen years old. I graduated from Wood River High School.
I was a matmaid for the wrestling team there for six years. I am interested
in the sciences. My course of study is Natural Science. I am a resident
advisor at the dorms. I am currently learning to snowboard. I also
enjoy paint-balling.

Lauren
Dickman
I grew up on a large vegetable farm just outside the small town of
Silverton, Oregon. I am currently majoring in photography, although
my ultimate goal is to work for the Peace Corps after earning my degree.
As a member of the Lady Eagles Basketball team, I love to play hoops
and am extremely excited about the 1998-99 season. My favorite mythological
character is Nike, the goddess of victory. Im hoping that Nike
will help carry the Lady Eagles on to Nationals in the spring. Besides
athletics and photography, I also enjoys making flower arrangments
and spending time with God.

Daysha
Frantz
I was born and raised in Twin Falls so I feel right at home at CSI.
As a second year elementary education major, I hope to someday touch
the lives of children through education. If you don't find me studying
or shuffling through Phi Theta Kappa minutes (I'm the secretary),
cahnces are I'm performing clarinet in a band or two somewhere around
the Magic Valley or headed up north to do "a little" camping.

Shana
Hansman
I was born and raised in Montana until my senior year. I chose to
come to CSI so I could be near both my parents who live in Nevada,
and the rest of my family and friends in Montana. I'm a sophomore
this year and plan to transfer to the University of Montana to major
in health/nutrition. I achieve a natural high by running and weight
lifting. I also get an extra boost from drinking my favorite beverage,
coffee.

David
Hollander
I like to describe myself as the Honors Program In-house Web Geek.
A computer freak with an art-bent, Im in the Commercial Art
major here at CSI, and Im also responsible for the Honors Web
Site (this one). I enjoy reading (classics only - the Bible included),
wrestling with my dog (a Border Collie/Black Lab mix), snowboarding
(so Ive gone only three times, but I really like it), employing
the art of sesquipedalianism (literally, being addicted to the use
of long and obscure words), and eating (all things non-nutritous).

Tama
Horejs
I graduated from Kimberly High School a few years ago and am returning
to college pursuing a Liberal Arts degree from CSI and then Communications
from ISU. A mother of three children, they keep me running in several
directions (usually at once). I enjoy reading, working with clay (ceramics),
listening to Jazz music, and teaching children.

husband is a Warrant Officer in the Idaho National Guard. I am the
mother of a wonderful six-year old boy and the stepmother of three
wonderful children ages 17, 15, and 13. I am an Accounting Major.
I plan to have my Associates Degree, and then on to my Masters Degree.
I hope to open my own bookkeeping and tax business. I enjoy reading,
music, gazing at the stars and doing craft projects.

Jeff
Leitch
I am a second year chemistry student at CSI and hope to one day become
a medicinal chemistry researcher. I enjoy skiing and you may hear
me cry out "Whoohoo, Its snowing" whenever the white fluffy
stuff falls from the sky. I love to fence Foil and Sabre, it might
be considered the only Western Martial Art. I also enjoy the great
outdoors, even though I dont get out as often as I would like.
Ive attempted to climb a few rocks, roll a kayak, and actually
ride a bike uphill... but so far the only thing I seem to be good
at is pitching a tent (sometimes).

Molly
Marciel
I own a small house in Jerome. I am 40 years old and am going to CSI
full-time. When I grow up (if ever), I want to be a radiology tech.
I enjoy reading, cooking, outdoors (just being in the sunshine), and
I love animals. I have a Boston Terrier named Biff that I spoil rotten.
|
Kristin
Phillips
I started attending CSI at the tender age of sixteen, after spending
three years at the tiny school of Benjamin Franklin Academy in Twin
Falls. Now as a sophomore, I'm one of those rare people who is still
living at home with my parents in the same house I have lived in since
the day I was born. Although, of course, I spend most of my time studying,
some of the other activities I enjoy are playing the piano, reading
good books, and spending time with my friends and family. When I leave
CSI, I plan on going into communications and one day teaching at a
college or university.

Sara
Summers
In order to explain the complicated splendor which makes up Sara,
you must first of all be informed of the following (not to make excuses,
just to make a point): 1) She has red hair (evoking an impatience
which is characteristic of the feature), 2) Is from Kimberly, Idaho
(small enough that no one noticed its disappearance after her first
lab), and 3) Is the oldest of three children (the rest were no longer
claimable after they became wards of the state).

Finally, we would like to present our brave and fearless leader,
the Honors Program Director:
Mark
Lindemer
As the Honors Program Director, Im proud to have the priviledge
to guide this diverse and energetic group of students that I affectionately
refer to as my academic over-achievers. When Im not either checking
out new books and material for the Honors Program or reading essays
as an English Composition and Literature Prof., you're likely to find
me plunging down the whitewater rapids of the Snake River sometimes
in my kayak or bumping moguls on the ski slopes sometimes
on my skis. If and when I grow up, I hope to write and illustrate
childrens books.
