The Honors Students, Fall 1999
Katy Andrus
I am a Freshman majoring in Elementary Education. When I am not busy
with my studies, I can be found spending time with my friends. I love
sports of all kinds. Yet my favorites are volleyball, fast-pitch softball,
track, and rodeo. For a job, I referee junior high volleyball matches,
referee and help coach youth city-league basketball games, and umpire
baseball/softball games during the summer in my hometown of Wendell.
If I am not at any of these I am probably in the Honors office working
as the intern, or just hiding out somewhere trying to find some peace
and quiet.

Sarah Barsness
I was born and raised in Filer, Idaho. This is my last semester
at CSI and I am majoring in English. I enjoy reading, sewing, music
(I play flute, piano, guitar, and I sing), and coffee. I have been
fortunate in having been able to travel quite a bit so far and one
of my major goals for the future is to go to Italy. I'm having a
great year at CSI. Some of my fun classes are French and Karate
and hanging out a lot with my friends. I love going to concerts
(especially jazz), poetry readings, the foriegn film festival, bike
riding (just for fun, I'm definitely not athletic!), and throwing
parties.

Sadie
Crofts
I come from the ancient land of
Firth, Idaho. In a previous life I was very stinking, rich and I will
undoubtedly surpass myself in this life. I occupy my spare time by
holding a chair on the student senate and taking courses at this college.
Since I have virtually no worries (except deciding the means by which
I will make my fortune), I spend the days making beaded jewely and
candles. Though I am very blessed, I have managed to remain very humble.

Lauren
Dickman
I grew up on a big vegetable farm in Silverton, Oregon (the most beautiful
place in the world). I came to Southern Idaho to play basketball in
the fall of 1998. I enjoy photography, both taking pictures and looking
at other artists' photographs. I am majoring in Liberal Arts here,
although I plan to study inter-cultural missions next year at a Christian
university.

Liz
Jackson
I am a very outgoing and spontaneous scouter-chic. I love the outdoors
and will take on any challenge presented before me. I have a quirky
personality and love to use it to make people laugh. I am currently
running for the CSI cross-country and track team. Running is one of
my favorite past times, maybe because I am so good at it. With all
of these activities, it is easy to notice that I am a hard worker
and very persistent. I enjoy being a part of the Honors Program, and
feel very excited and priveledged to be the president.

Sarah
Sherrill
My name is Sarah Ann Sherrill, my friends call me Sarah. For now I
live in the middle of nowhere, on a farm in Murtaugh, Idaho with my
parents. I am currently a high school Senior, working on my second
year of CSI Honors Reading. I am planning on attending BSU in the
fall of 2000. I can be extremely shy at times, but don't tell my friends
that! I love dancing all styles at all times, which is why I am currently
on my high school dance team. I love dating (especially my boyfriend
Joe), socializing, and driving. My favorite things are my 1994 GMC
pickup, named Kermit (because it is green), my stuffed frog named
Mr. Meogie, mountain biking, and my two cats. I have enjoyed the atmosphere
of college life and can't wait to be fully engulfed by it.

Jill
Stewart
Being #9 of 11 kids, I have learned to speak my mind, or be silent
and lost in the crowd. I think that's why I've been involved in competitive
speech and debate for 5 years (or I can't give up the rush of competition,
I'm not quite sure). I love to read, and I'm constantly looking for
a good book. While I'm getting used to city life (well if you can
call Twin Falls "city"), I'll always be a country girl at heart. I'm
19, and will be at CSI for two more years, after which I'd like to
work for a catalog clothing company (Eddie Bauer, anyone?), raise
a family, and perhaps run for a public office one day.

Becca
Stroebel
I dropped out of public school in third grade and my family embarked
on a learning adventure also known as home-schooling. I am Sophomore
this year and have really enjoyed the learning opportunities here
at CSI. If I am not attending classes or hanging out with friends,
you will most likely find me at the public library where I work in
Children's Services.

"My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light!"

Brett
Wilcox
I grew up here in Twin Falls, so it's only natural that I return home
after a few years in the Navy to begin my college career. I'll graduate
from CSI with a degree in Liberal Arts, then I plan to attend BSU
to earn my degree in Finance. CSI is great for me because of its environment.
I love the outdoors and all the activities that come with it-camping,
hiking, kayaking, skiing, etc. Academically, it has also been rewarding.
I decided to take Honors Reading as a challenge to myself, to earn
a greater respect for books and the knowledge and culture they bring
to our lives.

Last,
but not least, we'd like to itroduce our Honors Program Director:
Mark
Lindemer
As the Honors Program Director, I enjoy teaching this group of
students I affectionately refer to as my academic over-achievers.
To keep things fresh and lively, each semester I select a couple of
books to read for the first time along with my students. I like seeing
what ideas and insights students bring to the discussions. When I'm
not reading books for the Honors Program or reading essays as an English
Professor, you're likely to find me plunging down the white water
rapids of the Snake River - sometimes in my kayak - or bumping moguls
on the ski slopes - sometimes on my skis. If and when I grow up, I
hope to write an epic, romantic, comic, tragic, adventure screenplay
called "Whitewater Willy and the Working-Class Intellectuals" as well
as write and illustrate children's books.
