Program Overview

The College of Southern Idaho Paramedic Program is a nationally accredited program; offering the Associate of Applied Science Degree or Advanced Technical Certificate paths of study.

The program is accredited by the prestigious Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and the Commision on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).   The program also owns a SIM Man® human patient simulator for state-of-the-art student training.

Minimum qualifications for acceptance require current EMT-B or higher certification, English 101, Math 123 and Biology 127 or equivalents.

Students prepare for the paramedic profession in lecture, lab, and clinical educational environments, which include and exceed the current US DOT National Standard Curriculum.

Throughout the three semester program, students will learn and demonstrate competence in many advanced emergency medical topics such as medical-legal issues, pathophysiology, pharmacology, assessment, trauma, medical emergencies, pediatrics, special operations, and critical care.

Among the various clinical opportunities required are areas such as Emergency Departments, Obstetrics, Critical Care Units, Communication Centers, and with various prehospital EMS agencies.

A required field internship is the final component of the program, where students progress from participants to team leaders in a supervised setting. The internship occurs in an agreed upon urban area outside of the Magic Valley Region. Current internships are offered in Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, and Texas.

Upon completion of the program students will be certified in ACLS, PALS, & PHTLS and qualify to take the National Registry EMT-Paramedic exam.

The program also hosts the Southern Idaho EMS Conference every November which provides continuing education to EMS field providers and features national speakers.
