Beginning Golf
PHYE 117 (02) 1 Credit

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course is designed to develop the skills of the individual in the game of golf.  There will be instruction in the fundamentals of the game, skill performance, rules, etiquette and techniques to improve the game.

CLASS POLICY AND PROCEDURES

1.  Attendance is mandatory.

a.  Each unexcused absence results in one drop in the letter grade up to four absences.  The instructor reserves the right to drop the student after four unexcused absences.

            b.  All classes may be made-up by any one of the following:

                        (1) Hitting a bucket of balls at a driving range (proof required).

                        (2) Playing nine holes of golf (proof required).

                        (3) An individual lesson from a teaching professional golfer (proof required)

2.  Notebook:

            Each student must have a notebook containing the following:

            a.  Any handouts given to the student.

            b.  Rules Book.

            c.  Individual practice times.

            d.  Nine hole rounds played and scores.

GRADING PROCEDURES

            0-100 points     A

            1-90 points       B

            2-80 points       B

            3-70 points       C

            4-60 points       D

Notebook:        100 points

Skills Test:        100 points

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

            1.  To know the proper etiquette of golf.

            2.  To be aware of the rules and regulations governing the game of golf.

            3.  Proper grip and stance.

            4.  A working knowledge of the swing.

            5.  Proper club selection.

            6.  Chipping and putting.
