VOLLEYBALL SKILLS AND ANALYSIS
PHYE 125 - 1 CREDIT

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

A major course teaching skill development and knowledge of teaching professions, techniques, and analysis of skills and strategy in volleyball.  This course does not fulfill the Physical Education requirement for the A.A. degree.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

A.        To perform the all-around skills of volleyball

B.         To teach the various skill techniques used in volleyball (both individual player skills and team offensive and defensive skills.)

C.        To know the rules of volleyball (High school)

D.        To be able to prepare and execute a daily, weekly, and season practice schedule.

CLASS POLICY AND PROCEDURES:

A.        Attendance is mandatory.  The student is required to attend all classes on time and for the full class time.

B.         The student will be required to meet a 70% efficiency rating in the skills analysis as the final exam.

C.        A portfolio is required and will include but not be limited to the following:

                        1.         Volleyball rules section

                        2.         Coaching Philosophy paper

                        3.         Team rules

                        4.         Coaches team objectives

                        5.         6-8 week practice and game schedule

D.        Each student will be required to teach a skill involved in coaching volleyball.

OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT:

The portfolio will be required as an outcomes assessment in the course.  The student is required to turn in the portfolio to receive a grade in the course.

GRADING PROCEDURE:

Attendance: (50 points per class: 400 points total)

(Final Exam) skills analysis: 70% or above proficiency (100 points)

Teaching component: (100 points)

Portfolio: (400 points)
