CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Designed for the beginning player to acquire or improve his/her knowledge and fundamental skills in racquetball.  Instruction includes rules, game strategies, techniques of serve, forehand, backhand, and back wall play.

COURSE GOAL:

To help students learn the basic rules and skills in racquetball.  By the end of this course participants will be able to play racquetball at the beginner level.9

OBJECTIVES AND EVALUATIONS: 

Outcome:  Improve serve, forehand, backhand, and back wall play.

Assessment:  Students will be visually evaluated (individually) throughout the semester, while executing specific drills or game play.

Outcome:  Improve understanding of racquetball rules, court sense, and game strategies.

Assessment:  Students will participate in class discussion, review handouts, practice assigned drills, practice outside assignments, and participate in mock tournament.

GRADING:

A = no more than one absence that is not made up.

B = no more than two absences that are not made up.

C = no more than three absences that are not made up.

D/F = over four absences that are not made up will result in student failing the class.

·        The instructor will not drop you from class.  If you choose to discontinue attending class you need to complete the required paper work for withdrawal.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1.      Attend Class: Students are required to attend class for participation and instruction.  Make – ups can be made up by attending the other lab day the student is not assigned to – Tuesday or Thursday.

2.      Student is required to attend at least 1 instruction lab per week.  Students’ responsibility outside of class will be to participate in a minimum of 16 hours during the semester = 1 hour per week extra.

3.      Fill out health history (return to instructor) – if anything on the health history changes during the semester (medications, injuries, etc.) please notify the instructor immediately.

4.      Wear comfortable fitting clothing for freedom of movement.

5.      Wear good athletic shoes that will not leave marks on the floor.

6.      Remember safety first – follow the included safety rules at all times.  If you break any of the rules (through horseplay, etc.) you will be asked to leave the court and sit out till the next scheduled class date.
