Roles in SDS Process

It is important for the student, the CSI staff and faculty, and Student Disability Services (SDS) to be clear about their roles in the accommodation process.

Student Role

  • Provide medical, educational and/or psychological documentation to SDS.
  • Participate in process of designing and implementing reasonable accommodations.
  • Inform SDS when accommodations are not working or need to be modified.
Staff and Faculty Role
  • Refer students to SDS when a disability is disclosed and/or accommodations are requested.
  • Participate in process of designing and implementing reasonable accommodations.
  • Identify essential course/program/service components for accommodations to be determined.
  • Request assistance from SDS with accommodation, implementation, or consultation.
Student Disability Services (SDS)
  • Maintain medical/psychological documentation in a confidential manner.
  • Determine if condition(s) are a disability in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Identify and assist with implementation of reasonable accommodations.
  • Request updated documentation when symptoms change to determine if accommodations need to be modified.
  • Provide information and referral to campus and community resources to resolve disability-related issues.
