The new CSI Student Union Building addition
to the Taylor Administration building will add nearly 30-thousand
square feet of much needed and long-awaited student space
to the campus. It’ll provide more space for studying,
meeting, club activities, dining, and even some additional
storage space.
One of the most anticipated elements of the construction
project is the completion of the Matrix Center for students
this summer. Instead of the Advising, Records, Financial Aid,
and Business Offices all being separated by doorways, hallways,
and even upper and lower floors, they will all be together
in one place! A huge improvement for students who wonder where
they need to go, who they need to talk to, and what they need
to do in order to register. The Matrix Center remodeling is
taking place on the main floor of the Taylor Building where
the Eagle’s Nest and adjoining offices used to be. It
is expected to be completed in August, just in time for the
fall semester.
Another greatly anticipated improvement expected some time
in August will be the enlargement of the size of the bookstore.
The CSI Bookstore has gotten by on a minimum of space for
many years. It will finally have nearly twice as much room
to accommodate more books, more merchandise, and certainly
more people. It will also finally be handicap accessible.
As the 2003-2004 school year begins, construction will continue
on the new building. It will offer an impressive list of improvements
and additions that are expected to be completed in November.
On the main floor of the new building, students will find
a new game room to help them unwind and gather for fun. The
CSI Outdoor Program will be located near the game area for
the high visibility it needs to entice students into learning
how to enjoy Southern Idaho’s unique recreational opportunities.
A new, larger Eagle’s Nest will sell sandwiches, pizza,
sodas – lots of grab n’ go food that’s always
popular on college campuses.
Also on the main floor will be an information area for ticket
purchases to CSI events, computers for student use, and –
best of all - lots of open space for students to enjoy their
down time and get together with friends. A small patio will
be created just to the north of the Student Union for warm
weather activities.
Students and campus visitors will be impressed with the
beautiful all-glass north wall of the Student Union. Whether
upstairs or downstairs, looking out over the interior of the
campus will be a leisure activity for many who enjoy the new
building.
New to the campus, upstairs in the Student Union, will be
a small chapel, an area where students can go to get some
quiet time and meditation. Eating in the cafeteria will be
a new, open experience when the Student Union is completed.
Diners can sit in the cafeteria or mingle in the spacious
area that will extend all the way to the glass wall on the
north.
Several offices, including Student Information, Public Information,
Student Senate, and a work room for CSI clubs will be located
on the second floor of the Student Union. Three new meeting
rooms, two upstairs and one downstairs, will be available
for student and public use.
