Veterans "Getting Started" Checklist

  • Apply for Admission to CSI
    • Go online to www.csi.edu and click at the top on "Apply for Admissions"
    • Submit all official transcripts if applicable
      • High School
      • College
      • Military
  • How to Apply for your VA Benefits
    • Chapter 30, 33, 1606, and 1607
      • Have you used these before?
        • Yes
          • Complete and submit a "change of Program or Place of Training", VA Form 1995.
        • No
          • Go online to www.gibill.va.gov and click on "Apply for Benefits"
          • Contact the VA directly for questions concerning the benefits for which you are eligible 888-442-4551
    • Chapter 31 (DAV) benefit recipients, please contact the VA Vocational Rehabilitation Officer, Matt Osinski, at (208) 429-2229 to apply.
    • Chapter 35 benefit recipients, complete the Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance VA Form 22-5490.
      • If you have received Chapter 35 VA educational benefits while attending another school you should complete VA Form 22-5495.
    • All chapters are required to provide CSI with the following items. Many VA forms available online at http://www.va.gov/vaforms, or at e-Benefits https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/
      • Copy of your DD214 member 4, DD2384 (Notice of Basic Eligibility)
      • Copy of your Certificate of eligibility
      • Copy of COMPASS scores
      • Copy of your VA benefits application
  • Apply for Financial Aid
  • Next steps in registration process
    • Take the COMPASS placement exam
      • May not be applicable if: Successful completion of college-level coursework indicated on officialtranscripts from regionally accredited colleges/universities placement information, or completion of ACT or SAT test within the last three years *with qualifying scores*.
      • Available in the Testing Center in the Meyerhoeffer Building room 230
      • Or check their website for other available testing areas http://www.csi.edu/ip/adc/
    • Speak with academic advisor
      • First time student? Not sure your academic advisor is? Contact the Advising Center in the Matrix area of the Taylor Administrative Building or call 208-732-6250
    • Register for classes
      • Online at MyCSI or in person in the Matrix or any outreach center
    • Get a CSI ID card
    • Fill out your CSI VA Certification form
      • Turn into one of CSI’s Admissions and Records Office
    • Be sure to contact the School Certifying Official with any changes to your enrollment (drop, add withdraw), or major.
