Student Success Stories

Tell us about your experience at Job Corps?

Well when I first signed up I was a little afraid because in my last school I struggled with bullies and teachers not being able to teach or help me. Since I started the Job Corps program I have had such an amazing experience. Silvana Dice is our program coordinator and she is helpful when you have questions about anything. She's very easy to talk to and always very welcoming. Noemi Herrera is our activities and health coordinator, she helps us with our hours/mileage counting, she plans activities and trips for our program, and also teaches our lifeskills class. Noemi is very positive and uplifting, she makes the learning fun, and she explains stuff in depth so we all grasp what she's teaching. Fernando Valdez and Lauren Llewellyn are our case managers. They both go above and beyond to make sure we are where we want to be, and that we are happy with our schedules and classes. When we have our 1 on 1 meetings they ask about our feelings, homelife, and class to show they care. I think the Job Corps program has an amazing team and I love coming to school now.

What are you doing currently at Job Corps?

Currently, I am doing my GED, I've completed the math and English part now I'm working on the science and social studies. After the GED I'm interested in going to Autobody Collison and Repair courses. (I grew up with a brother and dad so I'm fairly familiar with automotive, I'd just love to learn more about it.)

What do you hope to gain from your experience at Job Corps?

I hope it provides me with a good job, give me the knowledge to be able to master the job, and possibly help me be financially stable and successful in my chosen career field.
