“Reflection shakes off the dust. Creativity gives soul to soulless places. In writing there is freedom, compassion, and I have grown to know I am capable of these positive attributes. With every lecture and swipe of ink, I come one step closer to wholeness, to humanity, to a beauty that exchanges ideas and turns them into empathy, and I am free.”

For the past three years, CSI instructor Shane Brown and Director of Cultural Enrichment Camille Barigar ventured into the Idaho State Penitentiary to teach creative writing workshops to inmates. What resulted was a profound experience for the inmates and the teachers. In this special presentation of the best of their work, you’ll explore how the introduction of creativity and artistic expression affected the lives of these men fettered by iron bars and the deeds of their pasts. The works the inmates created-poetry, scripts, memoirs, short stories-are featured in the production Sentences and presented by local actors and readers.

Can beauty be found buried behind concrete and steel, veiled from the rest of society?

Exciting News: This will be the first show we are hoping to present in a hybrid live audience/streamed format. Information for tickets to the streamed performance will be coming soon!  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at tickets.csi.edu or by calling 732-6288.  Seating limited to 220 socially-distanced patrons. All patrons required to wear masks
