All students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to audition for this powerful show Monday, March 8 at 3:00 pm or Wednesday March 10 at 6:30 pm. To audition, actors will be expected to cold-read a one to two minute monologue from the show--the selection will be provided.

Rehearsals will be Mondays & Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Fridays at 3 p.m. to accommodate either students or community members who work during the day. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided at the first rehearsal--not all rehearsals will be required for all cast members and times can vary with most falling twice a week.

The production will be performed in collaboration with the Voices Against Violence organization. Rebel Arts studios will be featuring a pop-up art gallery in the Fine Arts Foyer on April 23 featuring art created by survivors of violence. Patrons will be able to view the art and attend the show. The show will be live-streamed with a limited in-person audience based on Covid restrictions. All participants will be required to be masked and distanced during rehearsals and auditions.

The Laramie Project will be directed by Shane Brown (sbrown@csi.edu). Feel free to contact him for information, or to arrange an appointment to audition if the March 8 or 10 dates will not work for you. Please see below for a description of the show, (from the Tectonic Theater Project's website):

THE LARAMIE PROJECT
April 21 - 24 in the CSI Fine Arts Theater
In October 1998, Matthew Shepard, age 21, was brutally beaten and left to die on the plains outside Laramie, Wyoming. Because he was gay. Over the next year, Moisés Kaufman and a team of writers and actors from Tectonic took six trips to Laramie, where they interviewed citizens of the town – some unconnected with the tragedy, and some intimately involved. Using Moment Work, the company created The Laramie Project, a stunning theatrical examination of the immediate reactions of Matt Shepard’s community to the murder and to the underlying bigotry and hatred that enabled it. The Laramie Project has since been seen by over 30 million people around the world
