Team Members

At CSI's Teaching & Learning Center (TLC), we partner with our faculty to develop and provide an intentional path of continual learning and growth culminating in improved learning opportunities for our students.  We do this through consultation and by providing resources, activities, and programs to facilitate excellence in instruction, curriculum, delivery, and assessment.

What Does a Learning Designer Do?

In short, we partner with you for student success!

In some circles, our role is titled “Instructional Designer.”  At CSI, we intentionally focus on learning design, which considers the holistic learning experience of our students, including the contextual, cultural, and social aspects of how individuals best learn.  As learning designers, we focus on the design of learning environments, activities, and student engagement interactions that lead to positive student outcomes.

Would you like to know more about a day in the life of a learning designer?

Here is how we love to support CSI instructors as we work with you to create experiences that foster learner success:

Pedagogical Support

We work with faculty 1:1 or in small groups to clearly identify what you want your students to do/know when they complete your course (also known as student learning outcomes).  We share examples of instructional strategies that can be effectively used and adapted across course modalities to help your students feel welcome, support active learning, build community, and lead to maximum outcomes.

Course Design and Development

We keep your students top of mind as we ideate with you to align your course with desired learner outcomes.  We bring proven ideas and best practices to share, including backward design (which simply means beginning with the end in mind), accessibility, pedagogical principles, and even wayfinding   (guiding your students visually to get where they need to go).  We can share course templates and other resources to help you design efficiently and effectively.

Technology Integration

We love to experiment and teach with technology, and it shows.  We frequently explore new innovations and improved features of existing CSI technologies so that we are best prepared to answer your questions about how to most effectively use educational technology to teach.  As appropriate, we advocate for the addition of new technologies to benefit CSI teachers and learners.  We also regularly host informational workshops to bring new tips and efficiencies to you.

Research and Innovation

Our CSI learners are increasingly diverse, and we work with our instructors to deliver effective instruction in the modalities our students request.  We consistently engage in our own professional development through conferences, study, and partnerships with other institutions and professionals across the country to be in the know about current trends, educational research, and learning sciences.  It is always our goal to return and share out the very best of what we gain with you.
