Burley High School Dual Credit Education Academy

WHAT IS THE DUAL CREDIT GENERAL EDUCATION ACADEMY?

The CSI Dual Credit Program has partnered with the Burley High School Education Club to create a unique academy focused on providing Dual Credit students a purposeful teacher education pathway, in addition to coursework that will help students become general education core certified. The Education Academy is structured, by design, to provide Dual Credit students college courses at Burley High School, and online, throughout a three-year time commitment. At the conclusion of the Education Academy, students will be eligible to successfully apply for the CSI Academic Certificate and seamlessly continue their associate’s degree at CSI after high school.

WHEN IS THE ACADEMY?

The Burley High School Education Academy is comprised of six semester terms and is designed for students who will be a sophomore in the 2018-2019 academic school year.  Please click on the following link for more information and to see the Education Academy course sequence: Teacher Education Academy at Burley High School

WHAT IS THE COST?

Students in the Education Academy will be required to apply for Advanced Opportunities Fast Forward Funding through the Idaho State Department of Education. The Fast Forward Program provides students $65.00 per credit for dual credit courses taking place at Burley High School.  Students will be required to pay for textbooks and supplies on their own.  The total estimated cost to the student is approximately $1,170 over the course of the 3 year program. Please note that textbook costs could be subject to change.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCESS

The Burley High School Education Academy is limited to 25 Dual Credit students and will begin in the fall of 2018 and run through the spring of 2021.  The Education Academy is designed for students who will be a sophomore in the 2018-2019 academic school year.  Participants are expected to participate in all 6 semesters of coursework, including each class in the program sequence.  Students will not have the choice to opt out of courses contained within the Education Academy sequence.

Please review the applications guidelines listed below.  Complete applications will be received through Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Applicant candidates must be approved by the Burley High School Education Club and may be required to visit with the Dual Credit Program for a face-to-face interview as part of the selection process. Application to the academy does not guarantee a spot in the program. Students will be notified in early August with a selection status decision. Students selected must attend a mandatory orientation and course registration activities to be scheduled prior to the start of classes in August 2018. Parents and legal guardians are required to attend the orientation and registration activities.

Students will need to submit the following information with their application for consideration:

  • High School Transcript: Indicates the student is currently completing their high school sophomore year and has a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (g.p.a.)
  • A Letter of Support from a Counselor or Principal which clearly references the student’s overall academic preparedness and maturity to complete the Academy program-this piece WILL NOT BE REQUIRED for the Burley HS Education Academy.
  • Student Essay Questions: (Essay questions are included in the online Academy Application link included below):
    • Student introduction and background
    • Student’s reasons for applying to the Academy
    • Student’s plan to budget for textbooks and supplies
  • Academy Application Form
    • Student must have applied for admission to the CSI Dual Credit Program and have a CSI Student ID Number to complete the online Academy Application Form linked below.
