International Astronomy Day - Solar Viewing and Activities

Celebrate International Astronomy Day with us and explore the wonders of the universe through hands-on activities and special telescope viewings! From 11 AM to 4 PM, we’ll have a variety of engaging astronomy-themed activities designed to help learners of all ages discover more about the cosmos.

In the Centennial Observatory, you’ll have the chance to safely view sunspots and the solar atmosphere using specially filtered telescopes. Later in the day, step up to our impressive 24" telescope for spectacular views of Venus, Jupiter (visible after 12:46 PM), and bright stars that light up the midmorning sky.

💵 Cost: $1 per participant (tickets available day-of at the Herrett Center front desk)
