Laura Erickson is a Professor of Digital Media in CSI’s Business and Information Systems Department, where she has spent the last 17 years helping students discover their creativity, build their skills, and gain confidence in their artistic voice.

Laura began her journey in photography, and everything clicked when she found digital media. She describes herself as a typography and font geek, which made this field the perfect fit. She is also a proud CSI alum who completed the Computer Graphic Design for Print program. Her photography experience, design background, and love of learning made her a strong match for teaching at CSI.

Today, Laura teaches typography, vector drawing, page layout, survey of graphic design, advanced electronic publishing, and portfolio. She also teaches Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop 1.

Teaching at CSI has always been her dream. She says every experience she had with CSI staff before she joined the college was positive, upbeat, and encouraging. She knew she wanted to be part of that environment. What she enjoys most now is watching students realize their dreams and reach their full potential.

Inside and outside the classroom, Laura focuses on creating a welcoming space where students feel comfortable, supported, and motivated.

This year, Laura joined the Faculty Senate Executive Committee for the second time after previously serving as Faculty Senate President. In the Digital Media Program, she and her team are working with sublimation, heat press, and DTF printing to bring new tools and processes into the classroom!

Outside of work, Laura and her husband stay busy raising their three children who are 5, 9, and 12. They enjoy supporting their activities in wrestling, soccer, baseball, gymnastics, and running. Photography is still a passion for Laura, and she loves spending time with family in Salmon, Idaho. She says everything feels calmer on the river.

Her advice to future CSI students is to be bold, be brave, and take a leap of faith. Try something new, even if it feels intimidating. If you have ever felt like you did not fit in at college, you are not alone. Do it anyway, because you never know what amazing opportunities are waiting for you.
