The CSI Pep Band is open to all students enrolled full time at CSI. The group, directed by Scott Farkas, is comprised of 15-20 wind and percussion players. With a mission to support CSI athletics, the band performs at all men’s and women’s basketball games and will occasionally go on tour. Scholarships are available for students in the pep band.
The CSI Percussion Ensemble is open to both music majors and non-majors. This ensemble, directed by Scott Farkas, is dedicated to performing a wide variety of music written for percussion instruments. Repertoire ranges from the traditional music of Africa, Asia and Mexico to contemporary chamber music from Europe and America.
The Magic Valley Symphony Orchestra (Twin Falls campus) and the Magic Philharmonic (Mini-Cassia campus) are community orchestras that are open to CSI students by audition. Both orchestras rehearse once a week. Directed by Theodore Hadley, the Magic Valley Symphony performs four concerts each year, and may be taken for credit or 0-credit. The Magic Philharmonic, directed by a rotating list of conductors, offers three concerts each year and is only available for credit.
The CSI Chamber Choir is open to any CSI student or community member who can match pitch. The Choir performs traditional and contemporary choral literature and gives two major performances per year. Directed by Serena Jenkins Clark, Chamber Choir rehearses at the noon hour Monday through Friday. It is available for both credit and 0-credit.
The CSI Madrigals are a small auditioned vocal group performing primarily a cappella music ranging from early music to contemporary styles including pop and jazz. The group performs frequently on campus and at events throughout the Magic Valley. Directed by Serena Jenkins Clark, the group meets MWF and is available only for credit.
The Magic Valley Chorale is a community chorus that is open to all CSI students. Directed by Joseph Casperson, Magic Valley Chorale gives one major concert each semester. It rehearses once a week and is available for both credit and 0-credit.
Class Piano is offered at four levels: Beginning I, Beginning II, Intermediate I, Intermediate II. Class Piano is taught in a state of the art 12-keyboad lab of Yamaha Clavinova instruments. Students learn basic piano technique and music reading skills in a group setting. Contact Sue Miller (smiller@csi.edu) for more information. Class Piano is open to all students.
Class Guitar is a group approach to the fundamentals of guitar, including basic chords, tablature reading, standard notation reading, and accompaniment styles. Students must supply their own instrument. Contact Mike Frew (mfrew@csi.edu) for more information. Class Guitar is open to all students.
Applied lessons offer any CSI student private instruction in music. Students meet one-on-one with an instructor each week. The courses are only available for credit and carry additional fees (1-credit classes have an additional fee of $150 and meet for ½ hour each week of the term. 2-credit courses have an additional fee of $300 and meet for an hour each week of the term.)
