Eligibility

The election of the President, Vice President, and sophomore senators (students with 26 or more credits) shall be held at a designated time in the spring semester. Freshman senators (students with 25 or fewer credits) will be elected before the fifth week after the fall semester begins. Thereafter, the remaining executive positions — Pro-Tempore, Treasurer, and Secretary — will be appointed by the President and Vice President.

To become an ASCSI senator, students must be enrolled in at least six semester credit hours and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. For first-semester, first-year students, a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 (or an equivalent GED score) is required, along with enrollment in at least six semester credit hours at the College of Southern Idaho. This also applies to new freshmen who were home-schooled or qualified by passing the GED. For first-year students with completed Dual Credit courses, the college GPA requirement is not considered.

The President and Vice President roles are elected during the spring election cycle. To qualify for these offices, a student must have served a parliamentary position, defined as serving at least one full semester on any standing council at CSI. “One full semester” means attending more than 50% of meetings during that semester. If no eligible candidates are available, students with equivalent leadership experience at other colleges, universities, or accredited parliamentary organizations—verified and approved by ASCSI Student Government Advisors—may be considered eligible. Senators are required to attend weekly meetings, maintain their 2.5 GPA throughout the semester, and complete 2 student-facing hours and 2 office hours each week to remain in good standing.
