Hi, I'm Gisselle, and I'm a social work major at the College of Southern Idaho. As a new student, you might have a lot of questions like I did about how to do well at CSI.

I'm Kayden, and I'm majoring in animal science here at the College of Southern Idaho. I'm confident that you will find, as I have, that there are many reliable resources and people available to help you succeed. This video will provide you an overview of important things you need to know about your academic record and your responsibility and to take good care of it. We will also talk about important dates you will need to know, and most importantly, who can help.

One of the best things you can do as students is to pay attention to important dates and deadlines. Where you can find those important dates and deadlines is on your class schedule in MyCSI. Also, on the academic calendar at www.csi.edu page. It's our responsibility as students to remember important dates and deadlines.

[Kayden] Important dates at CSI include, the add period for registration. This is a period when all the classes are open for you to add them to your schedule. It will close the first Wednesday of the term at noon. The drop period. Sometimes students realize that the first week of the semester they can not complete a given course successfully that term. If this happens to you and you act in time, you can drop the course without penalty. The drop period ends on the first Sunday of the full-term semester courses. A drop period is not reflected on your transcript and you are not responsible for the course tuition. You may drop courses online until the end of the registration period each semester. The withdrawal period begins after the drop period ends. So, following the first Sunday of the semester, if you decide to exit a course, you can do so until 75% of the course has been completed, and the course will not be calculated in your GPA. Withdrawal means you attempted the first course, but did not complete any credit. The grade of W will appear on your permanent transcript. During the withdrawal period, you must complete the process to exit the class at the Office of the Registrar. The drop and withdrawal deadlines will be clearly posted on your class schedule, available in MyCSI and on the academic calendar on the main CSI webpage. In addition to remembering these important dates, it is also extremely important that you attend class. When the first Friday of the semester rolls around, instructors can drop students from their classes that have not attended or made arrangements. So, please attend class. This also includes participation in any online classes. The course catalog is another important tool for CSI students. You can find the catalog from the main CSI webpage by clicking current students. Then within the academic menu, you can click catalog. If you want a printed copy, you can also buy one at the bookstore. The catalog will be important to you in another way. Your catalog rights as a student means that even if requirements for your academic program change while you are a student, you are bound instead by your original catalog requirement. Unless you leave school for one academic year, you maintain your catalog rights for five years. Now, you may be thinking, wow, this is a lot to remember, but don't worry, it's easy to find help. When you have important questions about your college success or records, don't go to social media or your roommates. Instead, check out CSI catalog. If you're unable to find the answers there, go to the Office of the Registrar. At CSI, there are amazing resources and people to help you all times. All you need to do is ask.

Students also need to know important information about courses before registering. The course code legend will help you to understand what subject level, type and location relates to each course. For example, English 101 is a common general education course taken by many students. One section of the course will look like this when you are registering:

The prefix of the course designates what department offers the course.

The course number is a three-digit number that follows the prefix and will connect you to the course in the catalog.

The course type is designated immediately after the class number.

These details are important to note when registering for classes. If, for example, you add a course with location code C, that course will be taught CSI's main campus in Twin Falls. Last, pay attention to the instructional types, so that you are not surprised to find a course you registered for is only offered online. Also, note if there is no letter designated, it means your class will meet face-to-face. A letter indicates instruction has been modified.

Have you ever flown standby at the airport? This is like a course waitlist. Sometimes the course you want to register for may be full and so you may be added to a course waitlist for that course section. Standby doesn't mean that you're on the flight yet. The waitlist feature in MyCSI allows you to place yourself in line to enroll in a class that is full. You will be notified by email if you are moved from the waitlist into an open spot in the course. If you are not added from the waitlist before classes begin, we encourage you to attend the first class to find out whether you can add with the instructor's permission. There are two ways CSI students commonly struggle with waitlists. Students sometimes think being on the waitlist means they are registered for the course or at least guaranteed to get in eventually. This is not the case. Being on the waitlist means you may have a chance to add the course but there's no guarantee a space will open for you. You should have a backup plan in place. Students sometimes fail to check their CSI email to receive the notification they have been moved from a waitlist and added to a course. It is your responsibility to check your student email frequently.

Once you have registered for courses, you will want to locate your class schedule, which is found in MyCSI. First, log into MyCSI using your CSI credentials. Next, click academics in the upper navigation menu on the main MyCSI web page. Under the "My Academic Records" section in the right-hand navigation, click on "My Class Schedule". You will be prompted to re-enter your CSI credentials. Select the academic year and term and click "Generate Report". Click the blue hyperlink to view your class schedule. It will load in a new tab as a PDF document you can download or print. As you read your schedule, take note that courses designated with an R for day of the week take place on Thursdays.

Hay dos formas en que los estudiantes de CSI suelen tener problemas con las listas de espera. Se te pedirá reingresar tus identificaciones de CSI. Elige año académico en término y da clic en generar reporte. Da clic en el hipervínculo azul para ver tu horario. Cargará en una nueva pestaña como documento PDF que puedes descargar o imprimir. Conforme leas tu horario, revisa que los cursos diseñados con una R, día de la semana, ocurren en jueves.
