Welcome to CSI, Your College of Choice!

The Advising Center staff provides advising services to prospective, current, and returning students. First-semester degree-seeking students are assigned to a Student Success Advisor for assistance with degree planning and advising support resources. Once students have completed their first semester, they are transferred to their Major Faculty Advisor. Liberal Arts, Non-Degree, and students awaiting acceptance into specified programs will remain with a Student Success Advisor. Students are expected to discuss their educational planning and goals with their assigned advisor before registering for courses. The student advising process is a shared responsibility between the student and their assigned advisor.

"Be Wise, Get Advice!"

Advisors are the "cornerstone" of educational planning success. We assist individuals by teaching valuable skills and providing opportunities for personal growth. Typically, students who use advising services will meet their college accomplishments on time and take control of their lifelong planning and goals.

Our Mission

The mission of the Advising Center, is to foster student success, in partnership with faculty and staff, to promote educational planning resources and advising support to students and CSI’s diverse college community. Student Success Advisors (SSA) empower students through proactive, ethical, intentional student interactions, by encouraging the development of responsibility and decision-making skills focused on completion of students’ lifelong educational goals.

Beyond Academic Planning!

Student Success Advisors assist individuals in reaching their educational potential. Services provided enhance structure and accountability while providing new study strategies, better organization and time management skills, and general moral support. Services are not generally for help in specific subject content (such as math or tutoring of a specific subject) but will address areas from the following list, depending on the needs of the student.

· General academic advising

· Prioritizing

· Understanding Instructor expectations

· Study & test-taking skills

· Time & stress management

· Test preparation

· Learning styles

· Accountability

· Problem-solving

· Self-advocacy

· Planning/anticipating

Students can meet with an advisor to set goals for the semester while developing the skills to achieve those goals in the most efficient manner.

Academic Standing

Student Success Advisors assist students at all levels of academic standing. While attending CSI if a student’s cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0 for more than one semester, they will be placed on Academic Probation. During probation, students are required to meet with their Student Success Advisor to complete a Plan for Academic Student Success (PASS) in order to continue taking courses. This contract process is meant to provide students an opportunity to evaluate their previous and current experiences with CSI courses and plan for their future success while receiving support from their Student Success Advisor in selecting courses, reviewing time management skills, and referral to appropriate campus services.
