Agriculture Students Win National Event

CSI Agriculture Students Win National Event

 

Students from the College of Southern Idaho Agriculture Department recently attended the North American College Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Collegiate Judging Conference in North Platte, Nebraska along with over 500 college students plus their coaches and instructors. 16 students and two advisors from the CSI Agriculture Club represented Idaho at the event.

Teams from 42 two-year colleges and four-year universities competed in 13 different events. CSI students competed in Knowledge Bowl, Livestock Management, Equine Management, Livestock Judging, Dairy Judging, Crops, and Soils.

In the multi-disciplinary Knowledge Bowl event, the CSI team advanced undefeated all the way to the championship round and took first place in the double-elimination style tournament. Zane Barckholtz (sophomore- Filer), Shalani Wilcox (sophomore- Menan), Synovia Bates (freshman- Nampa), Jakell Hansen (sophomore- Rupert), and Madison Weiers (freshman- Rigby) represented CSI in the event. Joliet (Illinois) Junior College and Northeast (Nebraska) Community College took second and third place.

The CSI Livestock Management and Equine Management teams both took 2nd place in the two-year college division. In Livestock Management, Shalani Wilcox was recognized as the 3rd High Individual and top score in the knowledge exam. In Equine Management, Mason Horner placed 1st in the conformation potion and was awarded 3rd high individual. Mattie Merritt was the 4th high individual.
