Student Orientation, Advising & Registration

S.O.A.R. is required for all students seeking a certificate or degree at the College of Southern Idaho. S.O.A.R. is designed to introduce you to the essential tools for success at the CSI. Each S.O.A.R. session begins at 8 a.m. and runs until approximately 3:30 p.m. Please choose to attend on a date that allows you to attend the entire day. If you need to attend on a different day than you signed up for, please drop the session at least 24 hours prior to S.O.A.R. If you do not drop your course 24 hours before you will be charged for that day. If you have any dietary or accessibility needs please contact the Office of Admissions at 208-732-6221 or admissions@csi.edu to set up accommodations.

What happens at S.O.A.R.?

  • Speak with and ask questions of college representatives.
  • Learn to use CSI's online tools.
  • Learn your student responsibilities.
  • Learn about important policies and procedures.
  • Learn student success tips.
  • Learn about paying for school.
  • Register for classes.

Your responsibilities prior to registering/attending S.O.A.R.

  1. If applicable, submit your high school or GED transcript.
  2. If applicable, submit official college transcripts.
  3. Submit qualifying placement information. (ACT, SAT, or ALEKS and Write Class)
  4. Contact the Advising Center to make an appointment with an advisor.
  5. Register for S.O.A.R. during your advising appointment or in MyCSI. There is a $25 fee to attend S.O.A.R. You may register a guest to attend with you. There is a $10 fee per parent/guest to cover the cost of their lunch and materials.
  6. Bring your photo ID with you to S.O.A.R.

Can I bring a parent/guest?

Having a support network can be an important element of your success. You may register a parent/guest. In fact, we have special sessions just for them. Each guest costs an additional $10.

What should I bring?

Come with your photo ID, student ID number and MyCSI username and password. You will have an opportunity to take your student ID card photo, so be prepared.

How do I register to attend?

An advisor can help you register or you can register yourself online at MyCSI.

What if I cannot attend SOAR?

You are encouraged to rearrange your vacation or work obligations in order to attend. We offer various sessions in order to accommodate many schedules. Start your year off right at CSI with the foundation that orientation provides.
